It costs how much?!?

Still on my winning streak, I suppose. Because yesterday I got an email that I won a hair dryer worth $180. Um, what? What in the world could a hair dryer do that would make it worth $180? Here is a link to it, this one shows that it's worth $150. And all the reviews I've seen online say it's a nice dryer.

Now, I'm not complaining. Far from it. I need a new dryer and it's always nice to win something I'd never buy for myself. I'm just wondering what in the world makes it so expensive.

Eh, I'm getting old. Kids these days and their expensive hair dryers and hula hoops. Get off mah lawn.

I broke it??

My losing streak, that is. I might have broken it.

April has been a halfway decent month. Got a few gift cards, including one to the NFL shop for 50 bucks and over the weekend, I got an email saying I had won a Samsung Galaxy S II. I think that's the biggest thing I've won so far. I'm going to give it to my husband though, since I don't even have a real mobile phone plan right now. I've got one of those freebie phones that you can get if you're on some kind of government assistance. I got it from my sister who got it when she was on food stamps. It's a stupid, crappy phone and it does nothing but make calls and texts (sort of). Eh, it's a phone though. Hopefully when I get back to work I can get another real phone. I miss having a smartphone.

On the work front, things still don't look good. I've been applying to just about everything and have been on a few interviews, but nothing yet. And I got conflicting info about my unemployment benefits. The first guy I talked to last month told me I'd be approved for an extension that would most likely take me through September. But I spoke to someone else yesterday that said they've had some cuts and I only have 3 weeks of benefits left.

PANIC!!!!

So now I'm REALLY applying to everything. Hell, I even applied to McDonald's. That's how desperate I am. But there's a woman here in the complex that does some light industrial work of some kind and she said her work is hiring. She was supposed to be getting an application for me. My husband is going to try and get in touch with her today to see if she got it. I'll stand in an assembly line and work on widgets. Or maybe it's like the beer factory from Laverne and Shirley. Bye-bye, glove.

Or maybe I'll just win about four $5,000 sweeps this week. Yeah, think that's what I'll do.

Don't you just hate it...

...when you're told you'll get a phone call at such-and-such time and days go by but no call?

In addition to signing up with the employment agency, I got a call last week to interview with Sprint as a salesperson. I was kind of surprised they called me since I had never done that kind of work before, but I was glad they did. Anyway, I thought the interview went well and it ended with the guy telling me SEVERAL times that he would definitely be in touch, he wasn't the kind of person to leave people he'd interviewed hanging. Said he'd most likely be in touch Monday around 4:30. Today it's Friday at 9:00 a.m. I'd say he's had plenty of time to get in touch with me, but I've not heard a thing. So... why bother making some big deal about how he always calls EVERYONE so they know what's going on? What was the point of that? Ugh.

A few weeks ago I had submitted my application to a call center. Not my dream job by any means, but I'm getting desperate, haha. I got a call from them yesterday and I'm going in Monday to fill out a more extensive application and to interview. Wish me luck!

Wooops...

Almost forgot about this thing, haha.

Ok, so on the job-hunting front, I applied and interviewed with another employment agency last week. Sounds fairly promising. I need to go back this week to finalize some paperwork, then they should be able to get me something. Yay!

Sweepstakes are still not being good to me. The other night I got an email that I won a Bacardi t-shirt. Yay. All my problems are solved! Ah well, just gotta keep the faith. You can't win if you don't enter and all that bullshit. I'll just keep plugging along. It's free and it's not like I have anything else to do.

These last couple of weeks have been insanely warm. It's been more like April than February. I wonder if these means we'll get one of those freak snowstorms in March? I kind of hope we do. I love extreme weather. And this winter has been boring as hell.

And because I can't think of anything else to say, here's another screenshot from EQ2.

Mmm... coffee...

I won a bag of Seattle's Best coffee today. Honestly, I really don't like that kind. If that's the best Seattle has to offer, they should really go back to the drawing board. But hey, it's free and it's coffee. I'll take it.

On my original post, I mentioned that I also like to play video games. Well, I really only play one. It's called Everquest 2. It's a MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game). I've been playing it off and on since November 2004, when it first came out. It's kind of a hobby.

Some people are familiar with World of Warcraft. EQ2 is similar to that. In a nutshell, you create a character like an elf, dwarf, gnome, etc., and that character takes on a class like wizard, assassin, cleric, etc. You travel through the world, hunting, gathering adventuring either alone or with other players. And there's no real end to the game. Unlike single-player games, MMOs are constantly changing and they have new content added. So, even though there might be a top level (you start out at level one and go up from there), being at the top level doesn't necessarily mean you've won the game and there's nothing else to do. So that's why you can play these types of games for years and really not run out of things to do.

A couple of things that I really like about EQ2 is how it caters to almost every play style. There are the "hard core" players out there that like to get together with other players almost every night and go on raids. This is where you get about 24 or more players together and tackle some of the biggest, baddest guys in the game. When I was younger, I used to do this occasionally. But raids take up a lot of time and I just got tired of having a game that was starting to feel like a second job.

EQ2 is very solo-friendly, meaning I can log into the game and if I want, I can play alone. There is a chat feature in the game, and I've made friends with some other players. So even though I might be out there, slaying goblins by myself, I can still interact with other people through the chat feature. In these types of games, you're never totally alone.

Also, EQ2 has a housing feature. Your character can own and decorate his/her own house. And for some people, this is the most fun aspect of this game. I enjoy the housing part of it also, but I'm not the decorator that some are.

Alright, that's enough for now. All this talking about it has made me want to hop in and start playing, haha. But here's a couple of pictures first:

An example of one of my characters houses. She no longer has this house, she's moved on to a bigger one.

And here's one of my characters, a druid, on her tiger mount.

Feels good

Since it's been so long since I've worked out, and I've basically become a lazy-ass couch potato, I need to easy myself back into working out. Thank god for the little 10-minute workouts they have on On Demand. I just did one and even though it was tough, I'm sitting here now and I feel pretty good! We're not made to just sit around, and that's so evident once you get up and get the blood flowing and MOVE. But I'm not stupid and I'm also not 25 any more. I need to take it slow. In a little while I'll do another 10 minute segment. And hopefully this slow but steady pace will help me get back into better shape.

Nothing new on the job front. I still apply to something every few days. But I'm starting to wonder if I'll be one of the many out there that just can't find work.

Just another day

Just checking in... not much going on right now.

That printer showed up this week. I was really surprised to see it so early. And instead of selling it, I'm going to send it to my sister. She said her boyfriend could use it for his work.

The sweepstakes site I use has a forum. And one of the members posted a couple of days ago that she won $10,000. That really gives me hope that I can win something like that one of these days. Just gotta keep plugging along!

On the work front, I'm still looking. I never heard anything back from that telemarketing job. Which is kind of odd, since those kinds of places have such a high turnover, that they'll hire almost anyone. I might try and give them another call next week. And today I applied for a data entry job. But there's just still not much out there. I get a job search emailed to me every day and it seems like most of the jobs are for forklift drivers or nannies. I can't drive a forklift and there's no way in hell I could be a nanny. Half the time, I'm looking for someone to watch my kid for me.

I broke it!

My losing streak, that is.

Last Friday, I got an email saying I won an all-in-one photo printer. We really don't need a printer, we have an all-in-one printer now that we barely use. Unless this one just blows my current one out of the water, I may try to sell it.

It sure was nice to see that winning email. Hopefully more will be following!

Whew!

I used to work out a lot. I was one of those people you hated to talk to about working out, because I was kind of a fanatic. I never joined a gym and I wasn't a runner. I used videos at home and I had weights and 2 sizes of steps. I worked out 45 minutes to 1.5 hours 6 days a week, 5 if I had a rough week at work. But that was 12 years ago.

Now I'm determined to get back into it. I've really gotten lazy and let myself go. I can't stand it. So on On Demand, I found some 10 minutes workouts. I did the beginners pilates and beginners lower body today. And I see now how out of shape I am. But it felt good, just the same! If I can do 2 of these 10 minute workouts 3 times a week, I think that's a good jumping off point to get back in the habit. I might not be able to do an hour a day, six days a week anymore, but I'm also not 27 anymore.

Now I need a drink.

Ahhh coffee...

I got a Keurig coffee maker for Christmas. I love this thing. Makes great coffee and it's so nice when you just want one cup.

Our taxes are done, yay! We got my 1099 yesterday and that was the last thing we were waiting on. We're not getting as big a refund as I had hoped (does anyone ever get as big a refund as they want?), but it's a nice chunk all the same. New couch, here we come!

Cleaning??

Something's wrong with me. I actually feel like cleaning the house today. And boy does it need it.

I had the interview at the country club and I thought it went well. But.. (there's always a but) I was supposed to interview with two managers and only one was available. The second one was supposed to call me later the same day to either do her interview over the phone or else schedule another time for me to come in. I never heard from her. Ah well, it's just as well if I don't get the job. The only reason my husband wanted me to work there was for the free golf, but they don't have any perks like that for employees. And it's too far to drive. I guess I'll be calling that telemarketing place today or tomorrow.

That is, if I don't win some super mega sweepstakes today!

An Interview

Yesterday that country club called me back. I have an interview with them tomorrow. And to be honest, I'm kind of "meh" about the whole thing. I was really hoping to find something that's less physical. The years and years of being a server and bartender have left me pretty wrecked. Well, not totally wrecked, but I'm not as spry as I used to be. Or as young. I suppose if I get this job, I'll just have to keep my eyes open for something that's less physically demanding and hope that I don't throw my back out again while I work there. But on the other hand, it'll be nice to have more money than my piddly little unemployment. At least, I hope the money will be better.

Maybe I'll still call that telemarketing place. I hate to say it, but that place sounds better right now.

And on the sweeping front, I'm still in a horrible dry spell. I did well in October, great in November and ok in December. Nothing at all for the new year though. I miss seeing those "Congrats!" screens on an instant win game or those winning emails. I've even gotten a few surprise wins in the mail that I didn't know about (hello, $100 check!). Gotta get over this dry spell, ugh!

MLK Day!

Happy MLK Day! Once again, I totally forgot to decorate. Eh, there's always next year.

So I think I'm going to have to call Comcast again. I keep losing internet. They had to come out to our complex a few weeks ago to work on it and for a while it seemed like it was fixed. But just a few minutes ago it dropped right before I was able to publish this entry. And now I'm going to start typing everything in WordPad just so I don't lose as much. I hate doing things over.

Not much new here. Still on the job hunt. There's one of those telemarking places around here that's always hiring, so I put in an application with them. Not really something I want to do, but it beats not having a paycheck.

Speaking of getting paid, I found out they extended my unemployment benefits a couple more months. Now the pressure is off, and I might not have to go back to waiting tables if I can't find anything else.

The hunt continues

I just filled out an application to a country club in the area. My last job was at a country club and I really enjoyed it, so maybe this is a good prospect. The last club I worked at was pretty laid back though, and I think this one is a bit more formal. Also, I'm still hoping to get a job that's not so physical since my back is in horrible shape from years of serving and bartending. I'll just have to keep looking. And look at me, talking like I already have this job, haha. I just now hit the submit button!

I'm in a dry spell with my sweeping, but I'm still plugging along. You can't win if you don't enter. And I just know that any day now, that magical phone call or email will come!

Seriously.

A new blog!

This is going to be a riveting, edge-of-your-seat account of what's going on with me as I enter sweeps and game while I look for a job. Are you ready? Hang on!

Ok, that might have been a little sarcastic. While sweeping, gaming and job hunting is certainly entertaining (ha!), it might not be the thrill ride some would hope for.

The gaming is fun. Sweepstaking can also be fun, especially when you win. Job hunting, not so much.

A little background: in April 2011 I lost my job and since then, I've just been drawing a little unemployment. That is supposed to run out this February unless I get an extension. I'm not counting on that, so the job hunt has begun in earnest now.

But back in August, 2011, I saw a show about people that enter sweepstakes pretty much for a living and I thought "Hey, I'm not doing anything else right now, I could do that!" And so far there have been a few payouts. I got most of my Christmas shopping done with one of my winnings. And I've won a few small but useful things as well. Still keeping my fingers crossed for that big win though! And by big, I mean something over $500. While something with more zeros at the end would be ideal, I'm trying to keep it realistic.

Gaming is something else I do. I play online games. Some of you probably have heard of World of Warcraft. You may know someone that plays it. I've played it before, but my game du jour is Everquest 2. Similar type of game, but much better IMO. While I may mention my gaming addiction on occasion, this blog will mostly be about the sweeping and the job hunt.

Alright, that's it for now. Tune in later for more spine-chilling excitement!
